These engines have got me all revved up...Fermis wrote:Wiring up one little engine isn't so bad...doing 5 at once is stupid!!!
Also, paint is being slung today!

Re: Another batch-o-birds
In addition to the engines, I've been slingin some paint.
Decided to try out the "black base" thing...did that the other night. Painted all black, then lightened some areas with thin white....like so....

As far as time and tediousness, it's about the same as my usual method, and the resluts aren't really any different. Will go back to my usual way.
Wildcat.....

Dauntless....

And the Hellcats waiting for their dark blue tops...

Looking Good!!!
Haven't seen one of those Hasegawa SBD's built in a long time. How is it as far as the build goes???
So you have three Hellcats to paint and mark...all three in tri-color?
Re: Another batch-o-birds
Thanks dudes!
Yes, all 3 in tri-tone. Just finished painting...will unmask and take some pics....be back shortly!
The SBD kit shows some age....fit is good all around, but the kit supplied pit and engine leave a lot to be desired. No matter, resin replacements took care of all that!Manny1943 wrote:![]()

Re: Another batch-o-birds
Hellcats painted up!
Dragon...

What I really like about the Eduard kits, is that the wings and tail fit into recesses....very tight! No glue required...I removed them to make the masking process a bitrillion times easier.

Re: Another batch-o-birds
Looking good! Digging the one folded as well...
Re: Another batch-o-birds
The more I looked at the Wildcat and Dauntless, the less pleased I was. They just seemed to get more grey each time I looked at em. So, I mixed up a bit of blue, thinned it WAY down...roughly 4/1 (thinner/paint) and misted over the "grey".
You can see the difference a bit here. Wildcat is misted with the blue.

Both done...

Much happier!

Re: Another batch-o-birds
I agree that the Wildcat looks much better...
...in that second pic, however, they both (Wildcat and SBD) look like they are back to that grey color???

Perception is a strange thing!Manny1943 wrote:I agree that the Wildcat looks much better...

Maybe the darker blue backdrop is having the effect.
