1/48 Hasegawa Macchi C.202 378a Sq. "Serafini"

Post by lawdog114 »

Hello, I just finished this one so thought I would share it. It's the 1/48 Hasegawa Maachi C.202 done up in the 378a Sq. 155o Gr. markings of Ferrucio Serafini that he flew over Malta in July 1942. Serafini had 7 kills to include 2 Spitfires. Italian subjects, other than pizza, lasagna and the sort, aren't exactly my specialty, so I won't pretend to know about them or their air force. Hopefully the gent I built it for knows. Well, it's my understanding the 202 was a formidable machine, similar to the Bf 109, and could hold it's own against the allied machines as evidenced by his two Spit kills (the little white line on the tail is actually the silhouette of a Spitfire kill according to the decal sheet).

This isn't one of Hasegawa's best, pretty basic, and it fought me pretty much the whole way. I think my issues stemmed from a warped port fuselage piece (I bought the kit used off ebay). Who knows. Time and again you'll have one of those I suppose, but I made the best of it. I added an Ultracast seat and wheels. I managed to lose one of the small inner gear bay doors and had to fabricate a new one out of plasticard. Everything white was painted on and the rest were Stormo decals which worked great. Paint was thrown together with Tamiya paints per recommendations I found online.

Now Hasegawa's Ki-84 is a modern art masterpiece, it will be next. Then I need to try one of Eduard's new Spitfires.

Can you fly this plane and land it? Surely you can't be serious? I am serious, and don't call me Shirley

Even their fighters look like race cars. Beautiful airplane - you certainly did it justice.
Thanks,
