"D-Day Mini Whiskey 7" 1/48 Trumpeter C-47A

For those who don't know me from over at FSM, and are curious to know what my work is like here are a few examples.

Firstly, what I call my crowning achievement. D-Day Mini Whiskey 7. There are no actual images of her on D-Day(Just Market Garden), so artistic license was used. I went through a lot of pictures, and tried to get as close to what I thought Whiskey would of looked like on D-Day. I used the Trumpeter 1/48 C-47 kit, along with Eduard PE. All the markings were painted on. I used my Cricut to make masks for the W7, R, and tail number. I had the Montex masks for the insignia. The invasion stripes were painted on with a brush after a base coat of white was sprayed with the airbrush. It took me a bit over 80 hours total.

Those are lovely! I think the DC-3/C-47 is probably my favorite aircraft. Just a majestic bird. Probably the greatest of all time. I think I have 6 or so of the Monogram kits (both types) in the stash.

Thank you! Now I have to think how many I have in the stash, lol. I have two 1/48 Monogram ones. One will be a commission build Mini Whiskey 7, the other will be Mini Whiskey 7 with LED's and spinning props. I have two Trumpeter kits, one for each of the other markings Whiskey 7 was pictured wearing during WW2, then I have a 1/72 Italeri kit for a in flight diorama of Whiskey 7 with a C-130 from Ramstein that wears the W7.

And yes, I am completely enamoured with Whiskey 7. I've been helping to care for her for 3 1/2 years now, and I love every minute of it.

This past weekend after a nasty thunderstorm rolled through Cortland NY.


Cleaning her cockpit windows before the trip to Cortland at home base in Geneseo NY. I have to stand on the pilot, and co-pilots arm rests and pop through the hatch to reach the front four windows.

That is really cool that you get to work with those kinds of aircraft Keyda.

I’ve always had a high admiration for that build of yours. 80 hours?? It would have taken me at least double that time to complete something like that!!!

mustang, my only regret is I didn't discover the museum sooner. But then again it was there, along with the people I met when I needed it most.

keavdog, Lol. Funny you mention those. I just took 2.0 to Cortland with me, so it actually flew on the real Whiskey 7.

Here is version 1.0. It was made with a fleece material, and I glued the details on, which I quickly realized was going to be an issue. You couldn't flex, or squeeze it too much as the details would start pulling from the fabric. It held up okay in the wash, but I knew I could make a better one.




Version 2.0 was done with a material called Minky, which is much softer than fleece. I went and bought a new sewing/embroidery machine, and also purchased embroidery software to custom design the details, which allowed me to do applique, and the embroidery. I was much happier with 2.0, but still would like to improve upon it more. Possibly a winter time project.

Considering I've never made a stuffed animal before I think they turned out well. It still bugs me the shape isn't quite right, and it's super poofy, but it is a stuffed airplane, so I guess it should be poofy, lol.

Whiskey 7 porn.... ROFL! I have the Airfix one and want to do it as Whiskey 7 as well. Such a shame the details inside won’t be seen once the fuselage is buttoned up. I am having a hard time looking for lettering and number decals for it.

Superb work on your 48th scale Whiskey 7’s. I really love the wartime bird and how you captured the pre jump details of the taped up hinges. Bravo! Did you put in the anchor line cables also?

Weren’t you also building some NY ANG jets on FSM before you got hooked on W7?
