Kari's bench 2021 -->

The build is going forward, has been a joy to build. Not as good as Eduards Zero, but still good enough to make the build a pleasant experience.

First some bits & pieces work; those small navigation lights, gunsight etc etc



And then jumping on the canopy, first some testfitting.. good fit



The good thing with Eduards ProfiPACK, is to get those canopy masks. Good fit this time, if I still remember correct, with the Zero the masks were slightly too big. But here they are spot on!



I decided to build the Wildcat with closed canopy. Mainly because of I was not too happy with the result of the instrument panel, so closed canopy it will be.

And here we are, it starts to look like a Wildcat... And ready for paintbooth and primer!

The build is in that stage, that the main paintwork can start.

I wanted to use Mr Colors Gray C325, aka FS26440, but the paint was sold out (surprise surprise) in all my on-line / "local" hobby shops. However, had a bottle of MRP:s FS36440 that works as well.

The beauty using MRPs paints is, that they are always readily thinned.

My intention is to spray several thin-thin layers, taking advantage of the black basing technique, and this way get some nuances in the paintwork. The result is usually pretty difficult to see in a pic, the reality is better.

A lot of thin layers = takes time. So this mornings task was to finish the underside of one wing and I think I succeeded pretty well. I'm satisfied in other words. :-)



Difficult, if not impossible to show in a picture the nuances of the color.


Originally I had planned, informally though, to start with decaling this Sunday evening, but that will not happen, painting work takes more time than I have for the bench and I really don't want to hurry. Many thin layers takes the time it takes.

Apologies Kari, Having had my head firmly into moving recently I've let a lot of things online slip and I'd totally managed to miss this build - Very nice work thus far and what a nice looking kit. I might well have to check one out as I've not built anything in 1/48th this year.

Personally I think you did a very nice job of the IP and the rest of the cockpit

Man this is some SERIOUS eye candy going on here Kari!! . Looks like you have a little bit of a warble pattern going on with the top of that port wing. This has been something that I have been incorporating into my own aircraft builds as of the last few "birdy" builds of mine. Seems to deepen the paint weathering effect and it truly pays off when the final colors are all on. Great progress friend.

Oh very nice! I agree several thin coats is the way to go. She’s looking pretty good.
