That's the one. Apparently they were lacking low radar - hence lost a couple ships

The Seaking AEW version was hastily cobbled together to fill that gap, but alas it didn't enter service until just after the war had finished.

The Gannett is a cracking looking aircraft, it's always been a favourite of mine.

What was lacking was high altitude look down radars... in essence AWACS. Radar is very much a line of sight tool, so if an aircraft can stay below the radar horizon, it can approach closer to a target undetected. Raise the altitude of the radar transceiver, and it gains a much greater low altitude detection area. Especially over open ocean with no terrain features to hide behind. During the San Carlos Sound battles, the Argies could use the islands hills as radar terrain masking to hide behind until the last moment before striking at the Royal Navy ships.

I’ll let you know in a day or two. I’m really looking forward to trying them out. Although they are actually acrylic and not lacquer, so I would presume that they are are 3rd Gen and not Real Colors.
