AK Real Colors Paint Markers

Post by Stikpusher »

So... we receive this product in at work about a week nd half ago or so, and I gotta say, they are selling like tomorrow does not exist. Everybody wants them now

Image

So I tried them out the other day. I don't have a paint mule, but I do have a paint horse...

Image

An airfix 1/32 Scots Greys horse that I used to try out for airbrushing Humbrol Acrylics...

I decided to try the markers here on the hooves and a few assorted areas. I used Rubber Black and RLM 66 on the hooves

Image

I also used the RLM 66 in areas like the nose, ears, and mouth.

I am going to try some acrylic glazes for making the dapple base area, along with the AK Real Color markers, since the flat white is a bit translucent. I used them to cover up areas on the horses haunches that I had scratched up testing the hardiness of the Humbrol Acylics

stand by for further updates regarding these paint pens...

The tips allow for a wide variety of application, and they don't need to be shaken before being used, like some of the others mentioned above. plus they are actually acrylics, so have quick drying time for redcoats, touch ups, etc...

Looks very interesting -- Do they sell individually?

John, yes they are good for cockpit detail painting. I also used them to do the IP area of my LAV-AD. Lights, switches, screens. They do have a very fine tip.

Chris, yes, they are also being sold in small theme packs of three separate colors, or individually, aside from this big box set.

I’m gonna try using some of the other colors this weekend for stuff like tie down straps and road wheel tires.

Hope Stik doesn't mind bt I'll add to the Markers testing.

Alright, so here's a quick review on the AK Real Air Paint Markers. You get 34 markers in two rows. They're in there pretty tightly. It's got the tapered tip and you don't have to do anything to them. You can start painting right away.

I tried them on an unprimed missile. White and yellow act as I expected and it takes several coats to build up. I painted the wings Gunmetal and it looks great with just one coat. One of the cool things is that they dry super fast. I'll have to try them on a primed model and see how they work.

These two figures were painted completely with the markers.

I don’t mind one bit. I haven’t had much time to do much with them. The figures and missile look good.

I don’t know about for you, but are you noticing that the paints have a slight sheen and do not dry dead flat?

The figures look great., Mike! They look better than hand painting them with a brush. I’d consider buying a few colors.

Two questions…

Will they sell paint markers individually? If so, how much?

Do you have to pump the markers to get the paint flowing like with the Molotow Chrome pens?
