Bummer. I can't see Blacksheep's pics.

Got a couple of books today. AK has an app where you can download some of their books onto an iPad. And even better is that they're half the price!!!

Yesterday, I went to Syrcon 36 in Cicero... an hours drive from my home. And boy... I made a killing. :lashed:

Image

My first purchase was an old vintage Monogram P-38 Lightning. I talked to the seller and told him I built this kit as a kid. He was asking $10 for the kit. He gave it to me for $5 bucks! The kit is sealed in original shrink wrap too!

Image

My second purchase was this one. I already have it but was missing some key parts. Got it for $10. Kit still in original sealed box.

Image

My third buy... $10 for this one. Even better with sticker on box side states there's 2 kits inside!

Image

My final kit purchase is this beauty.... $15

Image

This is the first time I've seen a vendor selling off his paint supplies. A sign states he has weeded out the bad / crappy paints. I grabbed whatever Pollyscale colors he had left. The rest were Model Master enamel colors. Selling 10 for $5; as is. I got 14 colors for $5. :lashed: The colors I got:

Model Master enamel colors:

Chrome Silver
RAF Ocean Grey
Gunship Grey
Aircraft Grey
French Blue
Flint Grey FS36314
Dark Drab (B-52) FS24091
RAL 7016 Antracitgrau - never seen this color but hey... I'm not this one go.

Pollyscale colors:

Light Grey FS36440 - this is a Polly S paint
Ocean Grey 5-O
USSR Dark Topside Grey FS36176
French Dark Blue Grey
French Light Blue Grey
Oxidized Aluminum - this is a Pollyscale Metallics Series color. No way I'm passing on this one.

A table over, they were selling new paints... Gunze/Mr. Color, Tamiya, MRP, Revell, Xtracolor, Humbrol....

I picked up 2 colors by Gunze... 2 for $5

H78 Olive Drab 1 - I needed more
H77 Tire Black

good stuff!
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

On my way to Syrcon in Cicero, I've been wanting to stop at Flo's Diner... Home of the 10 cents Coffee for breakfast. Ordered the Big Breakfast for $10.95.

Big Breakfast... 2 scrambled eggs, 2 toast, 2 sausage links, 2 bacon, home fries, and a short stack of pancakes.

Image

Couldn't finish the pancakes. Only had 3 bites of it. Ate 3/4 of the home fries. Yeah, I was full... LOL!

When it says they serve 10 cents coffee, look at the bill. My kinda bill. LOL!

Actually, I negotiated on the Humber kit. He was asking $15. Got him down to $10. I've always bought stuff from this particular seller every year. He's had some pretty decent stuff every year. He always recognizes me every year. Decent fellow.

I try to find decent prices but I've had good luck in finding decent kits for less than $20 each.

The paint sale was a big surprise because I've never seen sellers have hobby I on their tables in all the years I've attended Syrcon these last 10 years or so. This was the first time I've seen them there.

And of course... no cigar on the raffle prizes. :bored: Maybe next year I'll get lucky.

Mark, the Thunderbird team and MASH figures look great. The Little Crappy Ship kit looks fun too. Not much to look at, but they sure do look unique.

Went to the airshow here in Houston Saturday. Other than the Viper Demo Team and The Blue Angels, it was pretty lame. ZERO modern fighters. The most modern ones were a C-5, Apache, Blackhawk and the USCG Dauphin. I did get a T-shirt, stickers and a patch.
