2024 was a bit of a bust

Post by scorpiomikey »

So in 2024 i completed a grand total of 0 (zero) kits. I got about half way through my PBY-5A.

I spent most of the time building my tools and stash etc.

The hard part is the area I can work in is so cold in winter, and so hot in summer that i get maybe 2 or 3 months of the year i can actually use it comfortably.

I recently started using scalemates with its intended purpose in mind and have input my stash and wishlist to that site. Its quite a good site actually. At least so far

Presenting, My current stash. Excluding my PBY.

Hopefully 2025 will be a little more productive. My wife is supportive of my hobby and shes hoping our next place (we are looking for buy) will have a nice indoor location for me to work. Even if we have a hobby room (shes crafty too) with an extractor hood.

I think that was 2016 for me… lots started but only 1 finished. Just too much going on in real life. Mikey, it sounds you at least have a plan for this year. Hopefully you can get the PBY completed along with some smaller projects later in the year. Seeing as you don’t have a dedicated hobby room, where do you do your building and painting?

You’ll get there, Mike. If the space you have is somewhat insulated and around 15x20 feet in size, you can heat with a space heater. A fan in the warmer months evens that temp a bit. This is what I use in my hobby room in our basement.

Thanks guys.
Currently i work in the garage. No insulation and concrete floors. Its pretty bitter out there at the moment. I have to bring all my paints inside over winter so they dont freeze.
We are currently renting a 5 bedroom house for me, my wife, her 2 kids and my in-laws. Bedroom 5 gets used as an office, so a little cramped, but not too bad, and no room for a hobby room. Even my gaming computer is set up in a hallway

You’ll get there again soon enough. I use scalemates as well but I do need to update it with stash additions and kits built.

I will echo what Carlos wrote: “You and your spouse have a solid plan which will include a hobby room and rec space for gaming too I would imagine.

Oh yes, thats the plan. We are both puzzle nerds (38 puzzles and growing just in the last 18 months), we both enjoy cross stitch, ive got models, shes got her sewing. And we both love board games. So we need a decent space to enjoy it all  preferably indoors and heated lol.

2024 was not really a success for me either.

None of the subjects below has been finalized... :bag:

Continued the build of Hasegawas 1:72 Curtiss Seagull, that I started in late 2023, started Arma Hobbys Hurricane II and Airfix vintage Hurricane II, both in 1:72. Did a few weeks an F-14 Eggplane and a Dornier Do-17Z in scale 1:144.

Continued a few evenings with ICM:s Dornier Do-17Z 1:48. A build I originally started in 2019, inspired by Bruce and his Do-17Z project Link. And finally I started with the current Avenger and Dauntless.

So finished models zero for 2024, but rather sure I will finish at least two in 2025.
