What about the small top wheels and the rear idler wheels… do they have rubber on them? Or are they’re all steel wheels?
The small wheels are called return rollers, those have a rubber tire/rim. The idler wheel on this version is steel rimmed. A rubber rimmed idler wheel would be introduced later on during the war.

I'm reading and following along and learning from you as you go! I like the way you create a "color palette" of parts using blue tape on cardboard! Do you do that for each project?

Always especially for fiddly parts. Easier to paint off the sprue than on them to reduce sanding any rough cuts. Been doing it this way for 20-30 plus years since I returned to the hobby.

More progress but pics forthcoming.

Individual track link parts painted Gunmetal and Humbrol track brown.

Thanks, Tom! That makes a whole lot of sense.

Very good start on the tracks Tom. Suggestion… paint the idler wheel contact surface shiny steel, as well as the outer edges that would contact the edge connector teeth.

All of them and the rear large wheels? (Aside from the return wheels)
