1/48 M1025 HMMWV

Post by Stikpusher »

Yesterday was our monthly AZ AMPS build & bull meeting. This month I decided to have a go at this kit for a comparative quick project

Image

This kit is pretty much a scaled down version of their 1/35 kit of the same subject and quite beautifully detailed. After 3 hours work, I was about 85% done until I start painting

chassis & suspension

hopefully this week I can get the base colors on or by next weekend at the latest...

That's awesome - I love the HMMWV. That looks like it's a really nice kit.

Nice subject!

But strange Tamiya box, white, something similar to Eduards overtree sets?

Nice!! Didn't ICM start doing HMMWV's? Guess they did one and left it at that. We need more new tool kits.

Stuart, I have a love/hate relationship with HMMWVs… I have literally driven them for thousands of miles over the years and have the hearing loss to prove it. They are uncomfortable and sluggish. But at the same time they are fun to drive, look cool, and come in such variety of versions.
and yes, it is a neat little kit.

Kari, I’ve picked up a few Tamiya kits over the years in these white boxes. I wonder if they are some particular Tamiya USA boxings.

Mike, yes I believe that ICM recently released a HMMWV kit in 1/48. Tamiya does another boxing of this kit that has a 40mm Mk.19 launcher up top in place of the M60 GPMG on this kit. They also make the stake bed cargo carrier version as well in 1/48. It would be great to see more family variants released. This kit would easily be turned into a TOW carrier.

Quick work. Beefy suspension on those beasts.
Thanks,

Yeah they do have a pretty rugged suspension on them. I do love how this kit falls together.

Well yep, I could see how that would change your opinion! Still can't beat the old Jeep for cool though.

No, you surely can’t beat the classic Willys Jeep :hmm: But I would put the HMMWV more in the league of the WWII WC series trucks.
