Monogram 1/48 Typhoon IB

Post by Stikpusher »

After roughly 5 weeks of effort my first project of 2015 is complete. Monogram's 1969 vintage 1/48 Typhoon IB with a little help from my spares box, Ultracast (resin), and Eduard, Reheat & Airwaves (PE). Decals are from Superscale for a Typhoon of 439 Squadron RCAF in Northwest Europe in Winter/Spring 1945. Paints are mostly Model Master Enamels, with some Humbrol and Tamiya as well...

LOL! Thank you BSY. I really appreciate that you took the time to look and comment on this build. The year is just starting, and I have no immediate prospects for completing #2 in the next few weeks...

Thank you for taking the time to say your thoughts folks. She is an oldie but goody of a kit indeed. At least you three had the courtesy to put your thoughts out there, and I truly appreciate that.

Thank you Jim. No my friend, these old kits are not out of life at all. Even straight OOB they will build up very nicely, and with a little help they can hold their own next to a new tooled Tamigawa release kit that costs many times more. As far as raised and recessed panel line details go, they both have their place to represent the real thing. And yes, the recessed line is here to stay and is somewhat easier to work with, far easier to weather and replace when lost, although not always the most accurate representation depending upon the subject. I will also say that recently having had a look at the new 1/24 Airfix Tiffy, their surface detail is almost exactly like the real deal. all they need to do is replace simple divots with recessed circles to represent flush rivet heads and then they will have real aircraft skin down in plastic. I am contemplating something to try using the raised lines as a guide that in my mind takes it to the next level when I find the proper kit and courage to try it on. This 1/48 old Monogram Tiffy, had I not been pressing to complete it in as short a time as possible with the details that I was adding is a great candidate.

Finished out great!

I think that kit is probably the best of the "old school" Mono kits....got one hanging proudly on my wall too!
