Tamiya 1/35 M43E8 "Easy Eight" Sherman

That's cool - I was thinking either Shep Paine or Verlinden. I like old modelling books so I might have to see if I can pick up a copy of that one.

That's a great source of information, Carlos. Back in the late 1980s, I bought three similar "books" from Kalmbach Publishing, by way of FinescaleModeler magazine. Modelers today would get a kick out of some of the suggested techniques for scratchbuilding and improvising stuff. That was in those golden days before much of an aftermarket even existed. Check out the prices, very reasonable!

Good books. I have all three! I forget I have them, but I have them.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Found the Shep Paine book on armor for $15.
A bit heavy handed and not terribly to my liking, but for now it is what I'm going with...
The turret assy starts tomorrow.

Looks good Lyle! Two things I might critique. 1, look at the tracks and be sure that the patterns go at the same direction as what the instructions say. 2, the interior faces of the hatches should also be in OD, not white.

OD ain't a problem. I actually studied the destructions a lot on the tracks and even removed one and re-did it. The brain farts are real and they don't help. I actually have the How to Build Model Airplane book somewhere.
Never really looked at it since except as a teen.

I wouldn't worry Lyle, I did exactly the same thing with the tracks on the Sherman I built last year... I'm pretty certain I'll do it again.LyleW wrote: ↑Fri Sep 05, 2025 7:03 amOD ain't a problem. The weathering looks good!

Thanks, Stuart. I had one correct and one reversed. I sometimes think I am a member of DAM...Mothers Against Dyslexia...
Anyway, more bits and pieces added. A couple added from scrap sprue, etc as the real piece went "poof" into the other dimension. Given no one but me (and youse guys) will ever see it..good enougn.

Hey, Carlos....on this 'post' - what looks like it should be an antenna mount....is it? Maybe not, though. I don't see any images with that being the case.
