SPAM Informal P-40 GB 2025

Post by Stuart »

Greetings Fellow SPAMers...

Welcome to the 2025 'informal, open, drop if and when you feel like it' P-40 GB - the P-40, arguably the best looking, most cinematic warplane of WWII...

Image

I'm going to be building one anyway, so if anyone else fancies joining in between now and the end of the year, grab yourself a kit (any scale, any variant, started or not), post it up in this thread and get building... (and feel free to post up some tasty P-40 photos)

Oh yeah, and don't forget to grab yourself a cold one.

Image

Cheers!

These are the kits I have to hand. currently I'm leaning towards the USAAF kit, just because I don't have a P-40 in US markings yet.

What would The Duke say?

Well I made a start last night whilst I was baking bread.

I'm going to do this version first, I don't actually have any USAAF aircraft on my shelf so I need to address that.

Image

Only one option in the box but I'm happy with that - one of the few aircraft that got off the ground during the attack on Pearl Harbour.

And the simple cockpit has been assembled, and had a first coat of interior green.

Cheers!

(name the film...)

I guess I'm in. Like I need something else started! No pictures, but I just ordered a two-fer, bagged (no box) P-40B in 1/48 by AMTech. Description says it is the AMT/Ertl kit and a review gave it pretty okie-dokie marks.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Lyle, the AMT/ERTL/AmTech P-40 kits are nice. I’ve built their F & K so far, plus have a long tail F, L, and N in my stash. OOB, they build up quick and easy with minimal fuss. They can use a little help in the cockpit but if you leave it closed or add a seated pilot it’s no big deal.

No rush Lyle if you want to get something else off the bench first - but welcome aboard. Sounds like a fun kit.
