Vintage Revell 1/81 scale Martin B-57B Intruder

Post by BlackSheep214 »

I decided to start this vintage Revell kit I've done as a kid back in the mid 70s. Kit is from 1970. This should be a quick build due to its engineering simplicity typical of the kit's age.

This kit was also my first purchase at yesterday's Syrcon 37.

The kit:

Low part count (26 to be exact) and definitely lacking detail; if any are very faint to see. I've decided to build this one wheels up.

Fuselage halves cleaned up and nose doors installed.

Image

Wings all assembled - 6 parts per wing including wingtip tanks.

Image

Tail rudder cleaned up of flash. This is one single part.

Canopy and one solid piece cockpit part

Next, cockpit and pilots to be painted. Did I mention I hate painting figures? :bored:  :giggles:

That's cool, Tom. My late father-in-law was an Air Force airman in the early '50s. He often told me a funny story of being startled by a visiting British Canberra. He was standing near it when it was "started" with a shotgun shell-like device to spin the turbines. He said he thought the thing had blown up!

Cockpit and pilots painted. Not going to see much once the fuselage is buttoned up.

That's a golden oldie there Tom. A true weekend project. :hmm:

I have decided to add bombs under the wing pylons. I grabbed some from my spares bin. Not accurate but close enough for me.

I watched a YouTube video last night about the short history of the B-57B bomber. Heard the start up and boy was it loud and the smoke on the startup was something else. :giggles:

Yeah... I just love finding old kits I've done as a kid and have another go at it.

I'm still torn.up on that Jacque Cousteau Research ship I saw at Syrcon. I doubt the vendor would chew the price below $100. Here's the kicker... the box was crappy conditionbut all the sprues were still in its original bags! :hissy:
