I think the angle of my photo matches pretty well with the historical image. If anyone is curious, it's sitting on a Japanese stoneware mug, which looks a bit like a tentacled beastie wrapped around a stone.

Carlos!! I'm thinking I might daub a small amount of acrylic on that chip to bring the surface level. My Dad used to use a match from a pack of matches as a paint dauber. Wow, this build is evoking so many past memories! That's one of the reasons I love this hobby so much. Good childhood or not so good childhood there is something akin to comfort food about building an old kit, isn't there?

Interesting idea of using heavy paper matches for that task. Nowadays a simple micro brush will do the same job. But then again, I have chewed of the end of a toothpick for similar tasks, so why not a match?

Gary, I think that was the weirdest support I’ve used, so I’ve actually edited it from my first post. Maybe it’s in character though. This is a kitchen table build, my friend. There aren’t frills. Whatever is easy to reach I’ll use. I have grabbed the wrong jars a few times, catching myself right before I’m about to ingest some chemical mix that will make me immortal! Invisible!

It works, Carlos. I’ve seen him fill in chips on some really nice cars with that technique. Of course we are talking older models before everything became two stage; but he always kept packs on hand for model kit emergencies!
