1:48 De Havilland Mosquito

The Mosquito, build of wood, was a excellent fighter and fighterbomber, so it is a must have to build some.

There is the old Monogram kit, can be build as fighter, bomber and nightfighter, but the details are not so good, it is a old kit and looks like a old kit..

The new Revell kit is good detaild and has moved flaps, can open the engine bay but has some fit problems, but not big problems, it is a FB fighterbomber with glas nose.

Tamiya has a wide range of versions, excelent fit, but not the option to open the engine bay, nor the moved flaps.

Airfix has some versions but I have not build one, so can not say if it works.

I understand the need to save space but your models look to good to hang from a ceiling. The dust really has an negative impact on the overall finish.
That beeing said, I smooth paintwork on your non-hanging models. How do the Revell and Tamiya kit compare?

Some impressive looking builds there CL, and a nice range of types – they look great. I think you’ve done a superb job of the painting & weathering – I really like the PR bird.

I don’t know what it is about the Tamiya kits (1/72 & 1/48) but to my eyes the canopy always looks too small – must be me of course because I know they are hailed as being the best.

(I have the 1/72 Airfix kit in WIP – It’s not bad, just ‘of its time’).

Comparing the Tamiya to the new Revell

Revell

-not so good Details in Cockpit (but you see not much when it is finished)

Tamiya

+ more or less all versions incl. Radarnose Version

use the pit and fuselage from tamiya, but the wings from revell?

have not tryed it,it is not nessesary, the difference is not so big, with installed canopy you see not enough an the canopy can only be open by the side door, if you need a perfect interiour take a resin cockpit, that makes a difference.

beautiful work on all of them. The gunsquito seems to have taken some flak damage though (Grey green camo hanger, missing a spinner)

I like 'em! One of these days I'll tackle the Airfix Mossie in my stash and let you know how it builds up The Revell one looks really nice to my eye!
