I bought a Moebius Nova Gasser kit for a LOT better looking engine, and a more appealing front axle that has disc brakes as well as other goodies that are in the box. This MPC kit, while a classic and can build up into a good-looking car, is quite rough. Round 2 didn't do just a whole great job of re-creating it as there is a TON of clean up involved in name of getting the most out of it.

Little bit more progress done today with getting the frame attached to the base underbody and picked out the rear brake line details.

I'll have to take a peek at my Spirit of '57 gasser in my stash after I'm finished with the Rafale kit.

Amazing! That is quite a color, Joe. Hear ya loud and clear about the rough repops from Round 2, but it's better to have something that's affordable than pay the premiums folks are charging for the vintage. I remember fighting to get an orginal Aurora Moonbus; every night was an eBay battle with someone wanting to charge the "moon" for kit plastic! Then the repop appeared and it was with satisfaction that I watched the majority of those sellers slink back into their hidey holes.

I agree, Bruce. Look at some of the old Monogram aircraft kits that were re pops by Revell. My son got me the Revell
P-61 Black Widow. What a mess. Tons of flash, some parts dont look right, even the ground crew looks emaciated due to the original Monogram molds. Never bothered building it because it's not worth it.

I'd rather build the original Monogram Black Widow kit.

I've acquired re-pops of a few MPC kits from my youth years... Foxy Box van, Lil Huster flip nose Datsun pick up, '53 Flip Nose Ford pick-up to name a few. I do want to get the Dodge Warlock pick up re-pop kit too. :lashed:

You guys are hitting the nail right on the head with your good points.

Bruce: The Jo-Han Ford Maverick kit now goes for around $350!! It looks like Moebius is coming out with one in the near future that outta drop the bottom out of that trap though.

Tom: I've heard numerous horror stories about the Revell Black Widow kit and as you mentioned......I'm seeing a good number of folks take on the original Monogram offering with not only a much better time in building them but a much better result too.

Got my aluminum wheels from Dancing Bear in yesterday.

Couldn't resist a mock up

Yeah, I still want the original boxing of the Monogram Black Widow kit. If the price is right. Some sellers on eBay are asking stupid money for them.

I do remember that Jo Han Maverick kit because I built that kit as a teen back in the 80s. Fun little kit.

That's coming along really nicely Joe.

Interesting conversation about the Revell Black Widow. I don't often share links to other forums but these guys did a group-build on the Revell P-61 just to see how bad the kit actually was. If you skip to the later pages some of the builds they put out were superb. https://www.scalemodeladdict.com/thread ... all.15525/

Our own Keyda, Christine, did a bang up job on one.

To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Nice work Joe!

I find those Revell Black Widows at model shows all the time.
