Re: Procrastination in modelling...
Martin, that was extremely well-written and I agree with you. It becomes a problem for the community when there is an assumption of hierarchy. We are model builders and that should be enough to participate and be of service to others. I would go a step further and state that our real purpose is to inspire others and build our community for future generations.
Make more models!

yes, I agree completely and that's why I joined a group of model builders and start to show models on exhibitions again. I don't do competitions anymore, it's not for the price its for the smile of visitors passing by.

Re: Procrastination in modelling...
While I am saddened by the negative comments on shows and judging, as a contest director; I try to first and foremost make sure the judges look for the basics and the established criteria of IPMS rules. I've heard of other shows, and even been to a couple where the judging was obviously biased; but I don't enter anything for medals. If I get one, magnificent! To me that means that I did a good job. I enter my models to show my work and hear the comments and discuss the techniques and processes I used on the models I show. Most times, it's almost the only way for me to get other people to see my work in person. Therefore, even at a biased show, I don't care since I'm not there for the medals, but for the other friends and fellow modelers who appreciate my work. I always jokingly say to people "I'm locked for Fifth Place is all my categories" even when I'm one of three entrants in a category! LOL!
Yes, I love getting awards, but I'm also realistic enough to see my work for what it is and to see how others see it when placed next to many Masters who make my work look like toys. That for me keeps things balanced and helps me to enjoy the show even more as I look at others' work and learn from them.
As for building; I keep things fresh and focused by having a list/series/queue of models I'm working on and getting them all done when I can in the time I have to model.

We are modelers - the same in spirit, in hunger to insanely buy newly released kits, hustlers in hiding our stash from our better halves and experts in using garbage as replacements for after-market parts.

A very positive attitude that Mark - I'm sure that's the best way.

Well, sitting here in the hospital, waiting for transportation to take Miss Pam back to the skilled nursing facility. She game here a week ago because the feeding tUbe was clogged. While here, a couple of setbacks. Nothing major, but it kept her here in ICU a few extra days. Anyway, she is going back to the other place this morning.
Procrastination…fatigue induced, ADHD induced, boredom induced. And a big one for me, in-over-my-head, what-was-I-thinking induced. Me and the O’Brien are at this point with the PE work. My brain tells me that I can do this, Then laughs at me. I do have enough sense to stop when the frustration builds or understanding of processes is vague. I intend to keep after it, but it saps the fun at that point in time.

To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Prayers lifted for Pam Lyle - and best wishes to you both. You really going through a rough one at the moment.
As for the kit, nah, I've told you. It's not procrastination, you're a closet S&M freak! Keep at it, I'm sure you'll be able to
discipline
yourself to keep at it and
whip
that PE into shape.

Naw. I think it is procrastination. I know what is waiting for me, and I don’t want to face it…
And, we are staying out for now.

Lyle, it doesn’t matter what age you are, the heart wants what the heart wants. I see the Liberty ship as a very big learning exercise for your patience and persistence. I think the guys at Wingnut wrote best when they said the idea behind building their kits was you can absolutely build any kit without rigging, that what was ultimately important was the process of building.
I’m incredibly slow and methodical overall but PE tests my patience. I often want to handle PE too much. My intent is to limit PE to where it is absolutely essential and do everything else in plastic which can be sanded and formed much more efficiently by hand. In short, I find working with PE very tool dependent.

Heart and brain often do not connect, or even come close. I entered this Liberty Ship buil knowing full well I never intend on utilizing all the PE pieces. But I now have at least two feet of railing to work with!

My heart (or lust) still wants Michelle Pfeiffer and Valeri Bertinelli…
