Raises hand… I have a question! Why did you leave unpainted areas when you added the silver layer, Carlos? Is that because the Vallejo Silver is not a good base coat for another color?

Which I painted areas are you referring to? I didn’t use silver on areas that wouldn’t be silver… the helmet, check and backpacks, associated straps, gloves and boots. I can’t say if the Vallejo silver is or is not a good base color, but I just didn’t want to overpaint silver with whatever color.

Thanks, Carlos! You answered my question within asking another one! The areas are the backpack, hoses, straps, boots and perhaps even the gloves. I usually spray a solid layer of whatever the prime color is even if it’s metallic like silver, copper or gold to avoid missed areas, so I was wondering if I should not use a metallic coat as a base coat. Does this make sense? If I paint an aircraft engine silver I paint the entire engine then will add in details, for example.

Ok, got ya. I am handbrushing everything now that the primer is on. So it’s not that the silver is a good or bad base, I just tend to paint figures in this manner nowadays. I paint around things that are not in the base uniform color.
