They're in a tomato sauce Lyle - quite nice, not like Boston beans or spicy beans. As I said, good on a buttered baked potato with or without cheese.
As for the Marmite - it is I grant you rather strong, so you really only need a small amount. The best way to eat it is on toast... you do have toast in the US right? That's heated bread? Spread a bit of butter on the toast, and then a thin spread of the Marmite. Love the stuff, although you might well hate it. It's also good for adding to stocks in cooking (1/2 a tsp per pint).
