Airfix 1/48 Lysander mk.I/mk.III

Hi Gents!

Because my Birthday is at the end of May, we often put Father's day off for a few weeks to spread out the celebrations - so for me, Father's day was the Sunday just gone and my lovely daughter got me this to play with (along with a rather nice £30 quid bottle of local wine and some chocs).



My Wife had a quiet word with me afterwards to tell me that my daughter is actually quite keen to see me build it, as she likes the Lysander. So rather than put it in the stash, I set up my little kitchen table work tray and set about it - I won't be doing the box scheme, but rather this one...

No.16 Squadron, Royal Air Force Old Sarum, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, 1938-39.

We used to visit Old Sarum all the time, so we have links with the place.



Build wise this thing is blooming wonderful - by far the best Airfix interior I've seen. Everything just fits, and the detail is really nice.

So far I've assembled as much as I can, and given it all a coat of interior green.





Just for fun I taped up the fuselage - man this thing is cool! The fit of the fuselage is superb. I can't see I'm going to need much filler.



Anyway, onwards and upwards - I'm off to give it the green another coat.

I think I built very poorly) sone 60 or more years ago…because I needed a kit and this was about the only plane the drug store had left!

Thanks Gents - it's been enjoyable thus far. Alas I didn't get any painting done as I fell asleep (well passed out tbh) on our bed in front of the fan - we've been having a heatwave here in the UK and I think I had a bit of heat exhaustion.

That sounds right. I was a Revell/Monogram back then. I was not pleased at that as I remember.

82 degrees this morning when I left for work at 6:51 a.m. I call it stupid hot outside. We've got smoke from the Canadian wildfires too. Pretty eerie sight outside. You can smell it too.

I hear you about the weather, Stuart. Carlotta’s renting in Paris for the month and says the heat is incredible; unlike here in Southern California the heat doesn’t drop away at night, so it’s been impossible to get a good night’s sleep.

Lyle mentioned the lack of air conditioning which is another issue, of course, for many in Europe. May your weather improve soon.
