Or, The Shelf of Doom. Since most of us intend to finish these someday....well, you know.

Thanks Bruce! The Tamiya masking tape is hard to beat.

Man that's looking good. I like the Operation Torch markings.
Thanks,

Thanks John! Although for some reason, the USAAF Fighter units in England that never deployed for Torch also used the yellow circle around the fuselage stars. I wonder if it was following the RAF practice of that on their fuselage roundels. But the 56th FG arrived in England in spring of ‘43, received their new P-47C’s in April and began flying combat missions shortly after that.

Carlos, Is one roundel larger than the other by design choice or camera angle? On your decal sheet I see the roundels sized at 40 inches actual, but I can’t tell if that applies to the lower wing or not.

Yes, the one side is larger than the other. That was something done in the ETO on P-47s for recognition by friendly ground forces. Supposedly the P-47 had some resemblance in silhouette to the FW-190, so in addition to the white stripes on the tail and the white cowling, a larger star was added on the opposite side to the factory applied star. Similar set ups were seen in the PTO where additional stars were added and made as large as possible…

Look at these SBDS in early 1942 for a good example of field applied larger markings

Thanks Tom! I was able to get the stencils finished this afternoon. All except for on the prop, as I still have to finish painting and building that item…

Interesting. I never knew or noticed that. I would have assumed it was an error. Like British underwing numbers appearing backwards.
Thanks,

I knew the SBDS had roundels larger than the other, but never knew they were applied to the P-47s.
