All you need is Dark Yellow, aka Dunkelgelb RAL 7028. All German armor produced between Feb 1943 and early 1945 came out of the factories in this color. Most companies make it in their paint lines. Don’t get hung up on Gunze paints. The secondary colors are Olivgrun RAL 6003 and Rotbraun RAL 8017

Nope. I found out couple nights ago it is in fact RAL 7028. Like I've mentioned, found a paint set to buy but will get at least 3 extra bottles of RAL 7028.

I found it odd the instruction guide don’t tell you how many links for the top, bottom and sides. That’s gonna be interesting to figure out. I’ve made sort of a track guide for the bottom (about 3 3/4 inch) and figuring out about 5 inches for the top. Hopefully, I’ll even out after it’s all said and done.

I do have a question though… the guide says tracks are steel. My thought is pintnthem Humbrol Track brown then dry brush steel over it. Thoughts for the armor experts?

Did a search on track treads color and found they were dark gunmetal with shiny spots from wear and tear. I’m guessing the tooth are also shiny due to rubbing from the road wheels. Spares are typically rust in color. I’ll do a bit of research with a few colors to make it look like rust on the spares.

Thats fairly typical for indy link tracks… especially on an older kit such as this. At best you may get the total links per side.

Track painting is a whole art to itself. Yes, the outer faces will look great painted in Track Brown with steel dry brushed over the parts that make the most contact with the ground… which is variable depending upon climate and terrain. On the inner faces, the parts that have direct contact with the drive sprockets and idler wheels typically end up as a highly polished steel due to the metal to metal contact, along with the guide teeth sides. The outer most portions though tend to be the same as the outer face areas that have no contact with the ground or running gear.

Actually spares are not usually rusty color. When they are new, they are coated with a tar like preservative that is a black/brown in color. But, often times, they are painted in the camouflage colors of the exterior of the AFV. They are rusty in appearance if they are salvaged used but unserviceable off of vehicles.

Interesting to see spare tracks are same color as hull. Hmmm. I may go that route for this build.

Looks like track brown with steel dry brushed is the way I'm going to run with. Will highlight the shiny sprockets and dry brush the treads' edges with silver.

Ok, now I’m just about ready to toss the track thread parts for this one.

Nothing in guide to tell be how many per side (top, bottom, sides to wrap around large bogies - front and rear) Definitely not like my Stuart tank tracks when they never gave me issues. Honestly, they really suck. So far, I’ve broken a few horns on the individual treads.

Now it comes down to seeking advice whether these aftermarket track would be correct for the Stug. I think they are but I need confirmation before I buy them. However, they are out of stock in a couple online stores. Master Club seems to be the easy choice and ease of assembly. I do like the idea it comes with a track tread holder/guide to build your tracks to keep them straight. Plus, once assembled, they are flexible to sit with a slight sag right on the top wheels/bogies.

Quick Tracks is another brand but they have so many variation/type for the Stug - early, middle, late. Not sure if they are simple as Master Club in assembly or whether it includes a track tread holder/guide like Master Club has. Even better question is are they indies tracks?

Scalemates does not show instruction guide on how to assemble to indie tracks. Are metal tracks better than resin tracks?

Any help would be appreciated.



Side note:

Spray painted RAL 7028 Dunkelgelb on most of the parts except top hull. Got tired after losing my patience with the kit supplied tread parts. I’ll resume tomorrow with the top hull.
