Panzer VI question

Currently reading Panzer Killers and a paragraph regarding "the dreaded Panzer VI with their long 88mm barrel got me curious and wanting me to build one. Here's the paragraph:




Which Panzer VI type was it with long 88mm barrel? The G? H/J?

I think the Panzer VI is actually the Tiger 1 Tom, like the Panther is the Panzer V. Certainly the Tiger had the 88mm.

Panzer VI is the Tiger and Tiger II. Panther is the Panzer V. Panzer IVs all had 75mm guns- the short barrel on the A thru F1, and long barrel high velocity type on the F2 thru J. The Mk.IV never was armed with an 88. A lengthened and modified Mk.IV hull was used to carry an 88mm PAK 43 that was known as the Hornisse/Nashorn. But no turreted Mk.IV ever was armed with an 88.

I was thinking at first was “Are they talking about the Tiger tank or the Panther IV? “ When I was shopping around looking for a Panzer IV with an 88mm barrel, I realized there’s no such thing. Then I was thinking maybe he’s talking about the Nashorn when I found a few kits of them.

Now it all makes sense they were talking about the Tiger tank.

At first I thought they were talking about one of these tanks…

For some odd reason, I’m itching to add more armor kits to my stash. Definitely the first image above on my wish list and at least 2 Tiger tanks - one being Wittmann’s Tiger tank.

I’m very old school in my weathering, but have also incorporated newer materials and techniques. There are so many to choose from in both areas. But before you start diving down that rabbit hole, a good idea is to figure out what end appearance you want to achieve first.

I don’t want to go crazy with weathering but I want to achieve something that’s easy and simple for me to do. Simple splatter of dirt/dust behind road wheels hull, oil steaks, where to apply rust since I do have various weathering colors from Tamiya - the ones with sponge swabs.

I can weather aircrafts no problems. But armor? I’m actually intimidated. I’ve seen your work and Tony’s with weathering armor. I know I can’t measure up to be as good yet you make it look too easy. I guess I’m the type that needs someone who can show my how it’s done. What basic weathering tools/products to do simple weathering methods I can do.

I am keen on learning how to do winter scheme. Snow on tracks scares me on how to do it.

I know there are tons of videos on YouTube that makes your head spin and I’ll get lost in my own rabbit hole.
