Matchbox Beaufighter, 1/72

Found this old thing at the model show, and decided to put it together real quick. Three-color plastic, trenches for panel lines, and almost no detail....here we go!!

Slow day at the art gallery means a busy day on the "bench"!

Cockpit detail....yup thats it.


Bit of scrap plastic helped out


like a glove


more scrap, tape and some wire fleshed out the fuse interior


Fuse done, I moved on the the wheel wells--I use the term loosely; Its more like a blanking plate. More scrap plastic was added


then I went crazy and used thin strips of tape to detail the gear doors



whew! Busy day!!

it is a good one. Despite its age and lack of internal detail, it really looks to build up nice. Test fits show minimal gaps, canopy pieces are thick but clear, and it even comes with poseable ailerons!

all painted up! I used a different green to represent the British interior color, then drybrushed and picked out details.






gear doors, bays, and cowlings got the same treatment



OH! About those cowlings. The kit pieces was a clunky affair, so I thinned them out and added little notches in between to give it a bit better look. Kit piece on the right,


also added just a wee bit of wire to the engines

I love these old Matchbox kits - they are what I used to mainly make when I was a lad - as it's all the hardware shop in my village sold - you could buy a kit for £1-99! I used to build them without paint and play with them with my toy soilders until they fell to bits! - good memories!

1.99 eh? Thats about what I payed for this one!

through doodles and super quick research, I decided on this scheme. Maybe have one wing be a replacement as an honor to that multicolored plastic!
