1:48 Albatros D.III

Post by Cherrylock »

it is time to do more biplanes, and test some different ways of color and decals.

This is the austro-hungarian airforce OEFAG 253 the second improvement verion of the Albatros D.III, with more power and more reinforcements as the initial version.

Eduard made a super model, better cockpit than the Albatros D.V and with different detail, the OEFAG h some real cool colors, but I would test a light wood schema, most 253 only have clear topcoat with out color paint.

Oefag 253.32, Flik 63/J, Portobuffolee, September 1918 (Rudolf Němec)

Very Nice! :shoutout: I'm actually building the Glencoe kit of the 153 Oeffag Albatross DIII right now. My first Biplane since the 70s!

Wow! That is nice. Bipes and me don't play well together.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

That's a super looking bipe - the wooden fuse looks great.

What's with the two sets (old and new German Cross?) under the wing?

Great stuff as always CL

The Albatros is one of my favorite WWI birds!

Again a masterpiece from Cherrylock!

I'm in awe of your builds and I never get bored seeing your fantastic builds. The fuselage looks so real. How did you do it?

thanks for this nice comments.

this licht wood is made by decals, but you have to do a lot of painting to:

primer with extrem light linen (90% white + 10% radom or lighter) and make postshading on the panellines with real dark gray/brown (I have done this not enough, so I have to mark with permanent marker :bag: )
Cut the decals to the dimentions of the panels, I used Uschi van der Rosten decals, they are thin.
this is to extrem from the light to dark...so sealed it with Mr.Metal Primer
Oil color over all, not for panel lines, used it as overall paint, but thin enough to see the decal lines good, I used pine brown.
sealed it with Mr.Metal Primer an than made the squadron markings and sealed it wizh flat coat...

I would never thought they were decals. So many steps to achieve the realistic look. I am amazed.
