Re: Tamiya Thunderbolt, 1/48
I use black krylon for priming, as it already "pre-shades" your plane, then fill in the panel lines and overcoat the whole plane....
looks like this, in process:

"But hey OWL, isnt that pretty much just DOOGs' "black basing" technique?"
Nuh-uh!! See that MiG in the example? That was done back in 2010. I DID THIS BEFORE IT WAS COOL, OK?!?!
anyway, the preshade adds the "depth" I want, but is too uniform. So I made sure to add some lighter splotches to help break up the panels, and add some further variation.
final results:

any thoughts or comments? --on anything other than the grainy cell phone pics?

Every take-off has a landing...some are just better than others

lol - it shall henceforth be know as
Owls Black baseing technique!
Have a beer
that's looking good - the variation in the paint is nice and looks much better than a plain solid colour would.

Ditto...Fine looking bird.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..
