Re: Resistance X-Wing | Revell 1/50 | prime time!
Thank you. Man, that base is still drying - much longer than I expected.

Re: Resistance X-Wing | Revell 1/50 | prime time!
Some days ago, I had some questions about the salt method. Thanks again everybody for your help there, it really worked out good. This is how I did it for the nose of the X-Wing:
[1]
a combination of Maskol, hairspray and salt was brought on
[2]
the nose got some color - its a light grey, the very same that was left from the Heinkel build, btw.
[3]
all rubbed off after drying
[4]
some sanding paper helped to get some irregular scratches. Careful here, otherwise the surface will appear again.
[5]
I repeated step [4] after bringing on a small amount of grey again. And there we go.

Re: Resistance X-Wing | Revell 1/50 | chippy ho -the salt me
Many thanks Portman.
The paint job ended in an almost catastrophe and it took a lot of mojo and time to rescue the paint job. What happened?
Although the model had been primed before I was bringing on the white color, the Tamiya tape ripped off big chips in the lower area. On both sides!!! Even the old trick to minimize the adhesion of the tape by bringing it on a soft cloth several times didnt help. Again I had to tape, and again I had my fingers crossed.
2nd try didnt work too. But the 3rd did better. Its Tamiya tape btw, and its not too sticky by nature. The wings havent been painted yet, wish me luck.
Besides the paint job, I added some decent washings to the sand and some decent highlights, added the exhausts, freed the cockpit from its tape (worked perfect here!) and posed the figuresm, the barrel etc...
Enjoy!

Arrgghh that's a pain - glad to hear you sorted it out though.
Looking good - looking forward to seeing the wings painted.
I have to say I like this design of X-Wing - the split intakes look really cool.

Its very McQuarrie like - and the jet intakes are subject of constant discussions on several platforms between so called idealists and scientists/engineers.
The o-tone is "How do split intakes work?! There have to be complete engines." or "This cant work if it looks just like that!"
You know what? I dont really care. It looks damn sexy, and its SciFi. It doesnt have to work. Thats it.

Oh I know - it really makes me laugh when people get all rivet-countery over Sci-fi and What if subjects - they really need to get a life!
