Seriously, child? The one and only DB COOPER, that's who. Epic hijack of a 727 over Washington, Oregon and a jump out of the rear door. Never found him.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

One trick I learned was the primer layer. I had done quite a bit of reading different articles about how to get a nice, glossy white. It all started, for me with a light coat of grey primer. That showed me the areas that I had to work on for seam lines and sinkholes. Then after sanding and filling, I used a white primer coat and wet sanded it to a smooth coat. Then I added a very thin layer of silver paint followed by three thing coats of Model Master Pure White, with light wet sanding between each coat.
Thanks Jelliott for the tips!

That is really good stuff and yes, on an airliner it's all about the smooth and beautiful glossy finish of the white paintwork.

So if I calculate correctly, we talk first of 3 layers of primer (light grey, white and finally a thin layer of silver) and then on top of that 3 layers of the final color, which would be indeed also pure white for this Iberian 727. Wouh!

Let's see how this turns out after I have finished the 1st primer layer (with light grey)

Sorry for the delay, I'm without a computer at home for the moment and just saw your post. Remember, thin coats....that being said, you will lose some of the panel line detail; however, in all reality you wouldnt see that many panels in 1/144 scale anyway. IF you want to keep them, you could always scribe them a little deeper. The only lines that I made sure I didnt obliterate were the slats, flaps, rudder, ailerons and doors.

No worries Jelliott and thanks!

I have not yet started the priming, got sort of cold feet for the moment...

The kit is so old, that all the panel lines (especially on the fuselage) are raised, even the doors are marked with raised lines, which I find not so nice.

But I will try and will do the outmost to make the surface smooth and shiny!

Have fun with that kit - I made one last year with my daughter and the fit was fun ot say the least - especially the windscreen - on my Airifx 1/144 737 I've scratch built the cockpit windscreen frames and will add the glazing in after painting with Glue-n-Glaze.

Looking forward to seeing how your's comes out. One thing to consider though, I've never really understood this obsession with doing airliners high-gloss and super clean. Have you ever actually looked a a commercial working aircraft - they're blooming filthy! i have a friend who works for British Airways Engineering and he weathers the hell out of his Airliner kits as he's says it's more realistic - Just something to consider.

Cheers

Indeed, the windscreen is pretty horrible.. I started to mask it, after 30 minutes, still half way, had to take time-out with masking process... still on the time-out..

Thanks Stuart for the good idea. Must think of weathering, though I am interested to try to make a shiny example...
However, with your suggestion there is a good fall back plan! :-)
