Help from the BMF Guys?

Post by scorpiomikey »

Im doing a 72nd F-104C in this scheme.

Ill be using Allclad paints (they're relatively easy to get and not too expensive.) My question for you guys is, what shades should i be getting? Ive got duraluminum, but, as my friend constantly points out, ive got a horrible eye for colours. So i could do with a hand. What are your recommendations?

Duraluminium should be fine. But I would also use some of their other Aluminium shades here. Try to get more colour shots, even from other bare metal aircraft.

As far as im aware (That i can find on google image search anyway) these are the only 2 photos of this aircraft in this scheme, it crashed due to a mid air collision with another F-104.

All i see is "Shiny" which makes me want to hit it with chrome.

No on the chrome. Too shiny. The reason it looks shiny in the pic is the sun's angle. I'd go with the Duraluminum.

Ok, i picked up some steel last night for around the exhaust area. And some polished aluminium for some tonal variance.
Now, heres hoping i can get past the paint stage and actually finish something.

Polished Aluminum is good.

I'd suggest Duraluminium for the majority of the airframe, individual panels/access doors in Polished or White Aluminium for some tonal variance, and as to the rear fuselage, see picture posted above.

Here is a nice clear shot of some 104 tails. Although the vertical fin is in Aircraft Gray on these.
