Trumpeter 1/48 Mig-23MF Flogger-B

Post by jelliott523 »

So, here is my most current project that I am getting started with. It is the Trumpeter Mig-23MF Flogger-B. I will be doing the scheme that is on the box top, it will definitely be a masking nightmare.

What's the decal sheet look like? It shouldn't be all that bad as you think. Matching the paint to the decal will be the challenge. I do like the scheme though.

The decals are just the demon that is on the tail, the "shark-mouth" teeth on the nose and the Hell Fighter under the canopy. All the flames will have to be hand done, I guess this is where that "Artistic License" comes into play.

You know... you can blow it up to size at 1/48 scale and make a template of sorts for sides, bottom and top where the flames go.

Sorry I dont have any pictures to show right now of this build, but I thought I'd give a little update on the progress. I've got the main fuselage and variable-geometry wings done and the fuselage primed and pre-shaded. The build so far has been fairly decent, only a few areas that needed attention. The way the top of the wings/fuselage is about 1/16 off. If you line up the front of the piece where it belongs, the rest of the part is too short to properly align with the other parts and visa versa. I went ahead and lined up the part to proper alignment and then filled the gap with strip styrene. I'm hoping that is the worst of it.
I'll try to get some update pics taken and posted in the next few days.

I'll get some progress pics up, hopefully tonight after work. This kit is turning out fairly nicely. I've got the main parts together and have applied a nice coat of Stynylrez grey and done some pre-shading of areas. I've got a first coat of the light grey rear section done and getting ready to make Frisket Film masks for the flames.

Here are a couple of WIP shots. Getting everything masked so I can start creating the flames for the paint scheme.
