Another MiG-3!

Post by BorgR3mc0 »

From the shelf of doom: a HitKit 1/48 MiG-3, an old vacform kit I started more then ten years ago. An old build tread is somewhere on the FSM forum. I lost the pictures of the cockpit because I used a asphost free website (Kitfanatic, a defunct project of my brother-in-law and me).

Anyway, here is where the build is now:

The cockpit needs to be masked, more resin pieces need to be cleaned up and the whole thing needs another round of putty-sand-repeat.

The Mig-3 is such a cool looking aircraft.

Thanks Stuart!

This one is going to be used as a test mule:
- it is not that good a build and the kit is a bit off (a mixture of early and late build MiG-3)
- I need to test the Akan paints I bought
- I want to experiment some more with black basing. A bit more extreme then the first two times

So I am going to use the famous but fictions yellow 5 scheme, often contributed to Alexander Proshkerin.

It is here in this old GB tread:

But the pics are gone because I did not use photobucket. I had a personal page called kitfanatic with the pics on it but the host deleted it.

Everyone has to have a test mule. I have a Revell 1/48 Tomcat that's partially together that I use.

Yes, I read a lot about people using test mules. Nice example.

Maybe my MiG is not so much a test mule as more of an experimentel build. I do intend to finish it.

Black base is on:

I am going to paint it green on blue with Akan paints tomorrow.

The kit itself has aspects of both early (wings, exhaust, cooler, rear landing gear ) and late (guns, radio, rockets) and is definitely surpassed by the newer Trumpeter kits.
