F-104C---- Finished!

Nice! I've always wanted to do a Starfighter kit again. Did one years ago in my youth years. I found a couple of cool NATO decals sets I like but it's for a F-104S Startfighter. I imagine I could get away with using it on a 1/48 scale G model.

The decal set I liked are F-104 Starfighter Special #1 and CF-104G "Silver Fox".

That was a great site, great selection of decals and for once good and clear pictures of them!

That does look really nice stick - Those F-104's looked really cool with the tip tanks.

I was always under the impression that the USAF wasn't a big user of the Starfighter.

Thank you! The do look pretty sharp with the tip tanks, and those actually added stability to the design from what I have read.

Yes, the 104 saw far less service with the USAF than the rest of the "Century Series" fighters. Only one wing of Cs and multiple Interceptor squadrons of As. Both type were passed off to Reserve/Guard units in the Sixties.

Thank you sir! I have several more in my stash. I really like the looks of the 104. Yes, the S is basicly an enhanced G with more wing pylons and some added strakes on the lower rear fuselage. But I do believe there are a couple S kits out there. The old ESCI kit and well as Hasegawa's far newer and nicer kit. I have a nice sheet of NATO Starfighters. As well as the rest of the markings from the sheet I used here with various countries markings: Pakistan, Turkey, Taiwan.

Ok, I do have a question: What are the differences between the standard F-104G Starfighter and the RF-104G Starfighter? Does anyone make the RF-104G version kit?

A quick Google says that it has three cameras mounted in place of the gun. As far as available kits out there, I have no idea....

Well today I finally got another step closer to completion on this project... but first I had to take this photo... proof my airbrush has been out of service for too long...



Yup, the spiders in my garage work area decided my airbrush was theirs...

In the past couple weeks I have been nipping away at the wash and small paint stuff. Today I sealed that up with another coat of Future.. which darkened up the Promodeler Wash and really made that stand out.













I am gonna hit the remaining panel lines with something else, then seal it up with a flat coat...

Just a couple more steps...

Thank you. Yes those are RWRs. F-104s were fitted with them during the later portion of their second Vietnam deployment. Two in the rear and one under the nose. I had to scratch build them and the scopes for the cockpit to make this kit properly equipped.

Magnificent work Carlos. I like the dark Promodeller wash. Makes this really stand out. Once you dullcoat it, you'll probably lose some of that starkness. I really like the looks of this beastie!

Thanks Mark. But believe me, this build has quite a few small flaws. I just want to be done with this project. Yes that dark dirt wash is great stuff! Probably the most used item that I have won at an IPMS chapter raffle...
