Re: 54 Chevy Sedan Delivery-Pre-Glamour Shot Sneak Peek-09/1

Post by mustang1989 »

When I was a kid I was drawn to the Revell Street Demons line-up and ended up buying them all. I only built three of them back then and this was one of them. It's funny how when the hobby follows us into adulthood we see how much we either overlooked or just how bad the kits were back then. But hey, we were having fun back then right? lol . I took this project on in January of this year and although this kit does suck, I've had a great amount of fun with it and learning opportunities left and right over the course of the last 8-1/2 months. Although I was drawn to this car as a kid (and still am), as an adult I didn't care for the gasser stance for a "street" car and wanted something a little more jazzed up and to have some fun with it. Sooooooo, I created a dropped down party mobile. I mean .............with all that room in the back the possibilities were endless. I started out with my eyes being a lot bigger than 1.) my ability and 2.) what there was room for back there. Over the course of the build while my vision/ goal was always the same, I had to modify the ideas somewhat and my abilities got a tune up but I'm very happy with the end result.
I won't go over every detail of the build but I will say that there were 7 different kits and a lot of aftermarket involved in its making. What really blew me away was the fact that there weren't any headlight bezels/ buckets (and there still aren't to this day with the latest release of this kit!!! :headslap: ) and the hood hinge cut outs at the back of the engine compartment just make you want to slap the original kit engineers.
I'd like to thank all of those who followed along and commented/ encouraged me throughout this creation. You guys are da bomb.

Words fail me...My Thesaurus told me, "I got nothin'!".....You know, I watched you do the detail and still can't figure out how you did this.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

My my...

I don't either find enough suitable words, to describe the end result, which is magnific & fantastic!

Joe, this WIP has been so interesting to follow all these months, with full of "wouh-episodes", that it's a little bit sad it ends now..

But what a true Grand Finale it was !

Joe, that is one magnificently spectacular model! It turned out even better than I ever dreamed it would. I especially love seeing all the interior detail again which really makes this even more outstanding as I consider it while looking at the completed model. You really are a Master at this; I see more awards for this model in the future!

I do hope you bring it to Phoenix in 2018; I would love to see this in person!

I really appreciate everyone's comments so far.
Lyle, it's doable. lol. I just had to keep remembering that it's only plastic and that I always....I say always need two of whatever subject I'm building if I want to do any hacking or deep mods.
Kari, thanks and don't worry, there'll be a new chapter in automotive building. I'm really considering the "Der Beetle Bus" Volkswagen build but I dislike how short the wheel base is on it. Seems to give it an almost cartoon appearance which I definitely don't like. I've already acquired a second Beetle bus in which to lengthen it with and will give it a more realistic/ less cartoonish look.
Tom: Thank you as well sir. I always get a chuckle out of your comments.
Mark: and thank you sir for following along. Practice makes perfect and the more I do the more comfortable I feel around gloss paint jobs.........and the deep mods. Don't know if I'll make it to Phoenix with it but it may be in a possible San Antonio Nats in the near future...............fingers crossed.

Thanks for the votes of confidence stik and Paul. Gonna have to make it back in the automotive section pretty quick after that Arado build. I've already got another itch. lol
