Flying banana copter - H-21C italeri 1/72

Post by BsYamato »

Started this one about a week ago; the excuse was the second copy of this kit , so i can run into "almost" OOB :hmm:

As usual Boxart and sprues

First drops of glue and vallejo primer

The rotor transmission shaft bay received some extra detail

Last night some more paint

The kit have a good level of detail and a good fitting till now. In mind to germanize it, he seems just nicer markings than the other two avaible box versions (us army and french navy ). For the second box i'll search for japanese markings but this is another story :)

At the next!

This one I want to see! Although I prefer the markings for their early Vietnam service during the US "advisor" period of that war. They helped write the book on combat helicopter operations during their prolonged time there. They took theory and put it into extended daily practice. Tossed what did not work and created and refined new ideas to improve the mission.

Wouh,

I must say that previously I found the "flying banana" to look so... well... euhm.... sort of stupid...
But nowadays I like it a lot, looks cool and curious to see this project!

I like the look of pre turbine helicopters. The evolution of designs reminds me of the "between the wars" period for fixed wing aircraft. It was a similar gestation period for stronger and more versatile designs. The Bell H-13 and Sikorsky H-34 eventually being re equipped with turbine engines and continuing their service lives longer than their peers.
