You've picked the right choice - the aux intake flaps were spring loaded I think, or maybe just opened by airflow??? but anyway - when parked the bottom flaps were closed and the uppers open due to gravity. When sitting on the ground with the peggy running they would all be open and in fwd flight they would all be closed.

Here's something stupid...



Not only does the part between the pods not fit...it cockeyed as all get out...and wrong.



I'm no Harrier expert, but this didn't make sense to me.
Another goof...they have you put guns in both pods. I know the gun is on port and the other pod is for ammo...I just filled and sanded the hole on the ammo pod. Did a little diggin and found that that part is supposed to represent the "chute"(?) for the ammo to get to the gun. I scratched up a more accurate part with some sheet.

The Brits (still???) use two 30mm(?) cannons, while the US uses a single 25mm cannon and a lot more ammo. (as I understand it)

Interestingly I looked up pictures of the GR.7/9's used in Afghanistan and it looks like they mostly operated without them.

That bit of Scratch-building looks superb BTW.

Back at this one for a bit!

Some intake work.
The intake "trunk" has a fat, flat front to it, as does the fuselage part, that goes around the intake trunk. The two combined leaves a blunt 3/16th inch flat spot. Not a problem, if the little vent doors are to be closed. I've seen plenty of pics with them closed, plenty open, and a couple few that have the top 4 open, while the bottom 3 are closed. I'm going for the later.

You can see, in this pic, what I'm talking about, with the flat spot.


The trunk piece barely makes contact with the fuselage piece...I did some grinding and filling and sanding and filling and sanding.....
I only did the area were the vents will be open...



Also went ahead and painted the inside of the intakes, as it would be a major PITA to get the angle to paint em after being installed.



In that condition, I can just stuff a wad of whatever in there to plug it up.

the top doors are open to the one on the side while the bottom ones are closed. In flight they are all closed. I guess you already knew that but hey a little know it all never hurts.

Got this all ready for the rest of the paint. Wing/fuselage seams were a slight PITA.
I did a fair amount of pre-shading, before the final assembly...there's a lot of surface here and it is very tedious and time consuming...even in this giant, "blacksmith scale".





You can see the wings were already painted, while I had the paint out for other parts.
Finished up the pre-shading...





Ready for some color!
