I believe they were also the first aircraft that could "supercruise" - go supersonic and maintain Mach speed without afterburner.

Wow, I've only built on Lightning but I don't know what Mark it is, so I shall find out and then build more versions. You guys have convinced me with all this talk about that bird. Besides, I also want to do a Saudi one.

Way to go on this so far!

Thanks for the kind comments Guys! The Lightning sure was a beast of an aircraft.

I've got most of the painting done - All brush painted with Humbrol Enamels. Just a few touch ups and the side panels to do before clear coating.

Difficult to believe the paint is brushed on, so very smooth!
Looking good Stuart!

Thanks Kari - It's not quite up to BSY standards but I'm getting there.

Portman this is looking great! I'm enjoying this so much that I just purchased two Lightnings from a club selling a widow's collection just so I could build two of these like you are doing. Keep plugging man!

That's awesome Duke - what kit's did you get?

Progress continues at a less than Lightning pace - I've finished the painting and have just applied 2 coats of gloss ready for decals.
