1/48 Eduard Fw190A8/R2 "Yellow 8"

Post by mustang1989 »

I thought I had posted this build on here when I first joined but it looks like I didn't. I was still in the early learning stages when I built this one but it's got it's place in my display case. I'd really like another shot at an Eduard A series someday...... :hmm:

I finished this one up in the fall of 2013 and have updated the photos to reflect acquired knowledge of how to operate my camera. I'll have to say that despite the severe warpage issues I had with the wings and fuselage, this Eduard kit was a joy to build. Depicted here is "Yellow 8" of II JG 4 in September of 1944. It was piloted by Friedrich-Karl Frank and was shot down 11 Sept 1944 in a fierce air battle over the Ore Mountains. Frank managed to bail out and the plane became a "lawn dart". Pieces of the plane were dug out of the ground fairly recently and some managed to find their way into the Royal Class Fw190 A-8/ R2 kit from Eduard which is what this kit is.

Every man who manages to finish a 190A from Eduard is my brother in arms, lol.
I loved the build, too. The finished kit is so rewarding with all its details. To say that your's looking great is an understatement. I was way too chicken to open up all those hatches, especially to show the fantastic engine. But to get the whole bird closed up was a challenge, too. I'm very much looking forward to Eduard's new line of A-series kits coming this fall. I think they'll start with an A-3.

The battle of the Ore Mountains is a story for itself. Have to get me some literature about it!

BEAUTIFUL.

When I see an aircraft build that comes together like this, and is all of a piece with superlative building techniques, I am amazed by how it is even possible. The open compartments reveal the kit's details, and I am sure you sweated and maybe cursed and in the end cheered to see the project complete. Thank you so much for posting these images here to showcase your work and inspire others.

Now that part sucks. Having survived numerous jumps myself with scrapes, bruises, etc. and stuff just catching up to me now as my worst reminder, I always hate to hear about a guy who burned in. No matter what his nationality. Once you leave an aircraft in flight, you are truly at the mercy of the fates. As the Blackhats used to say to all us aspiring paratroopers, "... because the sky, like the sea, is unforgiving".

Very nice build Mustang. Those Eduard FW-190s are not for the timid. But the modeler who can whip it into shape is a modeler indeed.

I personally feel that as long as you have the modeling bug in your system, I will follow you wherever you wanna go, Joe. Your finish work is exquisite. Impeccable. Cheers.
