The Matchbox - Combo has to be filled and sanded. Also the very old Eurofighter EFA mock-up is in progress followed by Airfix Supermarine Spitfire PRXIX. On that one it is the first time I tried chipping with added salt. Salt applied on an aluminium base.

I removed some of the salt and in my opinion the effect is good.

Also you will see a Do 335 Race. It is made by my five year old son (bit of my Support for sure). This Hobbyboss is not yet finished.

I am trying to process all of the planes that I am seeing. I mentioned in your "Do you like 'What If'" thread that I was fascinated with the 1/72 scale Ta 152 as well. I have been looking at a vintage (1980s) Aoshima Ta 152 H-0 / H-1. I don't want to leave the fold of 1/72 modelers just yet or ever. There is something so good about working on the profiles of the aircraft. I am having more fun with pain with the Horten project... the Horten is another variation of the "What if?" model. If I put my schedule together for production, I would only have one entry so far this year, lol! But I like the Revell Ta 152 you built very much.

Question: How do you choose your subjects? I struggle with this.

LOL. The Google translation is very silly. But understandable.
All my projects are kits which I have on stock.
On the one hand there is my vintage Matchbox project. On the other hand there is my growing stock. It seems I am flashed by good box-arts...and then I buy . That's why there is no certain red line in my projects.
Additonally to good box-arts I am always on a journey through Ebay to get kits I built when I was a child.

The result is that large variety. Confusing...
Beside Matchbox the What-if stuff is my favourite.

I checked out a German diorama building board, a Polish aircraft board, and a British forum for knowledge of building techniques, but even in languages I do not understand I am beginning to realize a few of the differences between European modeling culture and American. I dislike too much generalized comment, but there is truth in generalities as well. I will pass quietly over the general thoughts and leave those on the battlefield.... but wow, there are differences in the way people support modeling as a welcoming respite from the crap going on in the world, which is why it's important to respect individual choices, which is so American of me, lol!

Your Aircraft Projects 2017

I am curious how you determine percentage of completion; is that as simple as how many steps in the build are finished to date? Apologies if it's a basic question, but I would like to apply a formula to work in progress in my own work.

So you choose subject partially on visual interest, which I definitely relate to myself. Good box art makes the decision easier. Thanks for letting me know!

The Matchbox Me 262 looks amazing, with just unpainted plastic! I never owned Matchbox kits but always admired the colorful plastic. Thomas mentioned how he grew up making Matchbox kits too, so I wondered if this was again a European "coming of age" passage, is that another part of the project choice?

I could go on and on about the 1/72 Revell Ta 152 you built, and the Me 262 you are building. The planes are lovely and in 1/72 scale the concept is design showcase. When I first saw the 1/72 Horten I thought, "Design!" It was a revelation until I started on the cockpit and grumbled over such poor accommodations for my pilot...
