Welcome home, safe and sound. Earlier you wrote "salt on a metal base," what did you mean? Is there metal somewhere? Forgive me, I am confused. Regarding the technique on the Spitfire, I am glad you're happy with the effect, because the chipping looks great!! The skin of the paint looks flayed, peeled and scraped, realistically.

Ah. Ok. I thought this might be confusing.
1. Paint some silver color on your model. In this case aluminum.
2. After drying add some water onto the painted area .
3. Then take some salt from the kitchen and put it onto the wet surface.
4. Let the water salt mixture Dry.
5. Airbrush your colors onto the model.
6. After drying you can remove the salt easily.
7. Result is this chipping.

The Spitfire looks nice... I like the grey finish.

What John wrote about the gray; in fact, I feel one strength you have in abundance is color field choice: the white of the jet was well chosen as well. As for me, I am really struggling with what color or colors to wrap over / drape over the Horten.

I like this gray. Is it Ocean Gray? Humbrol 231? You wrote which one it is but I am trying to remember....

Thank you for your explanation of salt chipping! I'm thinking about using fine salt sprinkled on wet or heavy water (dish soap added) to create a variegation of dark gray over primer, than see if that gets the Horten done.

Light gray on the top is Humbrol 165, bottom is Humbrol 230 prue blue.
