What happened? I was worried about the silver, actually, which is why I was quiet. Are both birds okay? Please let use know when you can! All the best.

Well Bruce, I’ll give a short summary what happened.

The good news is that Mustang is not dumped. It is still alive.

Summary:

1.       After polishing I applied the sealer by Modelmaster

2.       The polished effect was gone, it was dull.

3.       So I decided to polish the sealed surface again. Then the surface hat shiny marks, the polished effect was fully gone.

4.       That’s why I decided to redo the silver painting after applying all the other colors (white, red tail, anti-glare)

5.       Masking with Humbrol Maskol and Tape were easy, applying the colors as well.

6.       Removing the masks let to the next issue. The colors had no grip on the Modelmasters and peeled off in masking areas

7.       During all these steps the model flipped off my hands two times to crash onto the tiles with small damages.

8.       The little bird looked horrible. So I had two options: dump or remove the paint completely for another trial

9.       I set the removal of the paint. This process is now ongoing by using oven cleaner.

Wow... that REALLY is "wiping the slate clean"! How did the clear parts respond to the oven cleaner foam bath?

John, it has no impact. That's an advantage of it.
As the Mustang looks now is a new hope.

Keep fighting, Marius. That is most important. When you are in Mordor, and the Orcs surround you (let's call these Orcs by the names: Humbrol, Tamiya, Gunze and Vallejo), it is time to start swinging! I hope this metaphor makes sense. Keep going, Marius! Of course "A New Hope" is a Star Wars reference, not LOTR, lol.

What happens if gloss white is used instead of gloss black as a primer for the metal finish? Why are metal finishes so difficult?

I guess it is not difficult. On the Academy one these were all homemade mistakes.
If anything is to difficult, you haven't found the easy way yet.
With the new trial I go with polish chrome by Mr. Hobby.
