Just a few photos to share... I've given the landing gear covers a flat coat and have completed the weathering by lightly spraying some thinned brown around the edges and applied some paint chips using brown and silver color pencils. The reddish brown circles around the landing gear attachment points represents puttied repair areas and is speculative on this aircraft but you tend to see this quite a bit on Doras. Black 1 had a long service life so I'm guessing that this type of wear may have been present.


Here's how the gear doors will look with the landing gear legs attached.

Thank you! The oleos were painted Alclad Chrome over Tamiya Gloss Black. They were set aside a full day to dry and then masked off prior to painting the rest of the legs.

The way you build layers of paint is fantastic! The gear covers are fully representative of an actual aircraft, likewise the cleaner, purer mechanical functionality of the struts. So impressive. Those pieces feel oily without the traditional oily effects. These differences are subtle, and although there will be more additions of weathering effects, I imagine those will be specific to action areas of the aircraft, if your gallery work is any indication?

A short update on the Dora. I'm still waiting on the replacement flap from Eduard to arrive so the build is in a holding pattern. But I went ahead and glued the flap attachment points, making sure that they lined up with the hinges on the flaps.


The attachment is a bit fiddly but the fact that I can get the flap into place without glue and snap a picture of it bodes well for future attachment.

Thanks Bruce! I like to look at sub-assemblies as little individual models. It helps me focus by breaking up the build, especially on a long one like this. I do have to be careful about focusing on such small components as they need to match the rest of the build. I have a hard time maintaining my focus on the larger areas such as the fuselage and wings. It'll be a personal challenge to make sure that the bottom of the wings and fuselage match the landing gear covers.

Normally pretty well but the Tamiya tape left some marks on the oleo this time. It may have something to do with the G-Factor metal legs. On my last Dora, the oleos on the kit legs were unmarred by the tape.

I'm really digging those gear leg oleos. I think I have Alclad Chrome in my paints. I am gonna have to try that!
