EDIT... apologies, John, you meant the closed off wheel well! My bad! I read your reply well mis-read your reply so many times as the tail wheel being a major failing, it's not--it's the closed off wheel well. I don't know! Should I worry about it?

It depends on what is important to you. For myself, as a Dora Nut, it's a big issue and I personally would have ruled out the Tamiya and Trimaster/Dragon/DML Dora kits for this omission since it would be difficult to correct. The Eduard and Hobby Boss D-9 kits have the open wheel well. You can see from my build pictures how much missing detail results from closing off the wheel well.



I don't know of any wheel well correction sets for the Trimaster kit. MDC makes one for the Tamiya Dora but I have no idea how it would fit into your kit. Cost is about $20 shipped from the UK. The cost of the Trimaster kit + $20 for the MDC correction set + the uncertainty that I could make it work with the Trimaster kit = me choosing either the Eduard or Hobby Boss kit instead. But that is just me!


On the other hand... it does not effect the "external" appearance of the model once it is built and would be unseen unless you were to look into the wheel wells from below.

Bruce... I found a build on Hyperscale by Christian Lehmann who used the MDC wheel well correction set on the Trimaster Dora kit.

Yes, to what Mustang wrote. You are an ace, John Kim! Also I was considering the full detail package from MDC after reading the build documentation of the fella who modified that piece specifically for the Trimaster kit's cockpit as well (unless I misread his review). I am still recovering from Photobucket's extortion, which really reminded me of the fragility of human endeavors. I am struggling to rebuild my confidence in using the forum, uncertain what to do next. The Star Wars Group Build will continue, but my plans for doing a Ta 152H this summer (both 1/72 and 1/48) are up in the air. What do you do when you are uncertain how to proceed?

Also I watched the adaptation of Ghost in the Shell last night and wondered if you saw it... I had a used book of Studio IG storyboards from the series growing up--the filmmakers rendered many of the anime images as live action plates, which was beautiful--hypnotic.

I hear ya Bruce. I too am still "recovering" from this Photobucket thing. It disturbs me that my freely given contributions to various fishing and model-building communities have been rendered useless. It physically depressed me for a few days (ask my wife!). I used to take pride in making sure that even my oldest fishing reports (2005) were still populated with photos even though some of my contemporaries had deleted or let expire their online photo archives. It's like having your past or your reputation taken from you. Maybe this is a personal wake-up call to remind me of how precariously temporary this internet world can be and not to place too much importance on it. And that has been hard for me to do given the amount of time spent here. I'm just going to keep building and sharing, building and sharing and I guess in time, the lost files will be replaced and left behind.

I have not seen the new Ghost in the Shell. As a rule, I don't like remakes. Especially of films that were good to start with. And there are also some other "issues" that have made it difficult for me to support the film, which I won't get into here. You can PM me if ya want but we'll leave it at that.

Thanks for your reply, John. I am going to order the replacement resin parts based on your research and comments. For me, your Dora build documentation is an invaluable resource. I am grappling with the idea that a forum, which is an incredible resource, is also fragile. I will need to view the internet as a temporal entity which we as content generators must cultivate through our own diligence and integrity. Both for me as a novice, and for you as an experienced member of multiple forums centered around our pursuits and interests, the Photobucket policy change has been a philosophical issue as well. The ideas you present from your perspective detail a most careful and reasonable approach to coping with these changes. Thank you for taking the time to restore your Dora thread to active status with full photographic documentation. I believe there is a certain amount of elasticity in a documentary record, and an informal, "gather around the fire and let's have a chat" characteristic to forum posting. I sincerely appreciate your level of engagement with your subject as well as with your audience. Thank you.
