1/48 Airfix P-40B

I've been working on this one since December of last year. I usually don't make very much progress with each session, but I'm not interested in just pushing this one through to completion. I've really enjoyed this kit so far.

A little more sanding to flush out the seams and a few dust particles and then a nice new misty coat of Tamiya primer. The picture doesn't show how grainy the new coat is, but I will give it a buff later and it should be good to go.

Back on track again. Let's see how far I get this round. lol.

Airfix has several kits, this among others, on my want badly list...

Yeah, the hits just keep coming from Airfix. I'm a huge fan these days. I've even been collecting the older ones. When I was young I was advised that Airfix kits were horrible, but I would build Matchbox kits and those IMHO were actually worse in a lot of ways lol.

I'm still holding out for a new tool 1/48 P-36A, but who knows when they might get around to that?
It wouldn't be a bad choice seeing as how the current choices are so limited.

Yes, for the Hawk series in 1/48 there is the 20+ years old Hobbycraft family, and the 40+ years old AMT kit. I would love to see Revell or Airfix tackle the family like Hobbycraft did with all the different versions.

Following this one! I also got this kit, and it looks so good in the box. Beautiful moulding from Airfix!
I also got some aftermarket, as resin exhausts and the Eduard BigEd set...

Stik, Tamiya would be my primary pick for a 1/32 Hawk 75/P-36. You know what they've been doing lately in that arena! Just stunning kits! But that's probably just wishful thinking lol.

Portman, I can almost guarantee you'll love this kit. Its a must have! Highly recommended!

Thomas, what's in the big Ed set? I'm big on scratch building extra details, but I only modified the window crank and the throttle quadrant because they were molded into the side wall details. I didn't find that it need any more than that.

The weak areas in this kit are the nose cone (needs shims) and the gear knuckles (needs tlc). I added the canopy rails to the sides of the pit, but otherwise this is a really crackin' kit. It doesn't need much more to be a stunner.

So I'm super curious as to what the Big Ed set adds.

I finished the prop and made some progress on the landing gear yesterday evening.



I've noticed a bit of overspray is getting past my foam pit masking onto my pilot, but I shouldn't have a problem fixing that. I has my ways lol.

Mike, yes, Tamiya's 1/32 kits are truly superb. But they do not seem to gravitate towards a subject like the Hawk. A P-40, maybe... They go for the mainstream sure fire Mustang, Zero, 109. I think Revell Germany is more likely to come out with such a subject. After all they did come out with a fantastic 1/32 Ar-196 float plane in the $30 range. Now who could pass up that? Or I could see Trumpeter doing a 1/32 Hawk, as it does have an association with China (but the heresy of Trumpeter doing one in Nationalist markings.... ) But now I'm just rambling on the subject...

I like the P-40 a lot! One of my favorites. What is that one to the left of it? Looks a bit like an Eduard FW-190 Weekend Edition.
