I saw the Death Rattlers, in VMFA-323 guise, for many years flying F-4's and F/A-18's out of El Toro.

My main gig is the aircraft type in the title... it's a -4. I don't believe there was a -4D, and the 4B had the 4 20mm cannon instead of 6 .50 cal. machine guns...
But if you look at these photos of Death Rattler Corsairs in Korea, I think you nailed the look... despite what a few of your countryman may have said....
