RAF pilot, WW2

Hi all,

after the FeR miniatures RFC pilot bust theres this guy on my bench - a British WW2 pilot. As always the bust was primed black, and thin layers of reddish brown for the leather followed (Vallejo 343, Flesh Shadows). Then a dark brown wash followed (AK). In most cases, the jackets were made from sheep skin, thats why the collar looks a bit yellowish.

You're off to a fine start on this one as well. And yes, the RAF flight jackets were indeed sheepskin.

That jacket looks spot on to me - it ceratinly looks like the ones I've seen in the flesh.

I don't know why - but that face looks Australian to me

Huh? What makes Australia so special besides the great nature, culture, sights, beaches, reefs, creeks and ATTC? Man I really gotta go there again (spent almost 1 year down there, and itzs soooo long ago!)

I've never been, but my uncle's from Sydney.

Have I met him by chance? Spent almost a year Down Under in 2003.

I would kill for a year in Oz or New Zealand. I really appreciate Peter Jackson’s WETA Workshop and Wingnut Wings so much.

It was called "Work & Travel". Was the greatest time I ever had and I never ever regret being there - the Aussies are maybe a bit special, especially their dialect (and really - who isnt special after all, especially us modelers?!), nevertheless theyre a bunch of friendly and kind persons.

The layers on the face or so good. What a foundation for your to build upon, Lucas, what a great way to start! (Although I assume by now your work may be almost finished.) All the best!

Nice work on the bust. hope to see more updates on the face painting. or are they in a different thread?
