You are exactly right, John, and I apologize for not making myself clear. The only way for me to create close to realistic angles will be to heat thin clear plastic and drape it over the buck itself. My only concerns are fire safety hazards so I may try a hair dryer as a heater first. If that does not work I will try the toaster oven. My final heat source will be candle flame.

I've never done it but the process has fascinated me. I remember back in the day when the "serious" modeling guys had the Mattel Vacuform machine.

I am looking forward to whatever the results are. I imagine I will have to try a few times before I have a usable piece... or I may start looking at a small independent fabricator... but I am curious to see what the results are (I said that twice, eh?). Alls I can say is that you are tha MAN for tackling that part of the project. The odds of you getting a windscreen for that are pretty slim so it looks like it may be your only option. I really hope this turns out well for you Bruce. As a thought, keep your eyes peeled at the grocery stores for items encased in those clear plastic halves. You know, the kind that you've got to cut apart with scissors or take apart with your hands at the risk of friggin' cutting yourself. You might just find what your looking for in almost the exact shape that your looking for. Cut the piece out that you need and dunk it in Future and ......................wallah!!!!! I've had to do that a time or two.

Thanks so much for your wisdom as well, Joe. I feel I have to take a shot at doing this somehow. This will all be part of the adventure in a way. What I have noticed—you see this in the example I posted—are modelers using the kit windscreen which is much smaller. So that voice in my head, the little voice we all either listen to or ignore, tells me if this does not work I will be using what was already glued in place (the part I trimmed off carefully at the start). I am saving plastic pieces in the hopes that I will find a winner; and I thank you for your optimism and options! Truly. Thanks so much.

Thanks for your words! I hold onto all the advice I receive. I remember you gave me some real on the level advice about being patient with finishing surfaces and preparation. I always use your words and words from Borg, Carlos, John, Thomas and Torben when I get boxed into a situation.

I think you are incredibly patient. Also, very comfortable under pressure. And your work is amazing. I want to make tires look like you did... your latest project’s seam work is outstanding. I just need to pull my head out of my, um, let’s say from “under the hood,” and visit your thread—I study what you do, DM! I always try to learn and your work in progress... even the photos on the green background, bravo. Just the right depth. Plus your narrative approach is super!
