Great job on the windscreen! It looks really good. I did notice an irregularity in the top edge. Is this the "crimping" you mentioned? It looks like you could shave this down to match the other side and that would reduce/eliminate the irregularity. I'd use a sanding board (the cosmetic ones for nail polishing work well) to get a uniform top edge.

Just dip the clear piece in future and set it on a piece of paper towel to leach off the excess Future. I usually put it under a bowl to dry to avoid dust. Don't worry about messing up... you can remove Future with Windex and do it over if anything goes wrong.

Not sure what do about the Porsche logo. Maybe you could find a decal as a cheaper option? Custom 3D printing from Shapeways?

Well-spotted, John! Where you pinned the arrow is the defective area of the heat stretched plastic. I made a sort of quiet bet with myself that if I could gently pull the front section of the shield itself as straight as possible that so doing would be enough, however great idea to use sanding boards to restructure the top edge! Thank you so much! The hard edge is what makes the difference too, with the action of sanding down enough material in a uniform way!

Thank you so much for the procedure for using Future on a part like this!! What you wrote makes visualizing what needs to be done so much easier. I have seen results using Future but it is just as important to know the method, particularly having never done this before. I am looking forward to using polish to also create creative surface effects. Do you use Future to create the stressed and oily look of a working engine? I wonder how that would look at scale? Would it be too shiny? This puts in my mind how seeing your ZM build of the Ta 152 still sets the bar for me at least when it comes to engines properly painted and defined in a working manner.

Hm, yes also thanks for the tip to put the part “under the dome” until cured too! That is extremely important!

The Future dip should be the last step of treating your clear piece after all of the polishing is done. Dipping in Future helps the clarity of clear pieces by filling in microscopic voids. Future can also be used as a clear gloss. I don't like it in this role and prefer other products when I need a clear gloss but Future can be used in this capacity.

I don't remember specifically what I did with the Ta152 engine but I don't think I used any gloss on it. I think it was painted with Alclad shades with brush-painted details and then given a pastel wash to dirty it up. Since it was being buttoned up, I don't think I even sealed the wash with a flat coat. Maybe that's what gave it the shiny look... straight Alclad with a bit of wash over it.

Your recall is spot on, John! Your description is actually even more detailed, so great recall. I studied these pages so often before meeting you; and it’s been a signal honor to have the benefit of your advice and attitude or in many cases, your “high altitude” thinking through on challenges modeling presents us all.

PS: you will note why I thought of the sheen left by Future polish as having potential to create the complex shine of exposed natural and painted metal although now I know how you created the finish (and yes the irony is not lost on me that you finished the engine and rockers even though you buttoned these up completely with the cowling).

I went to Alpha Abrasives for sandpaper and sanding sticks. I also shot the lock off my wallet for these beauties:

Last but not least, has anyone tried using this for cutting curved pieces of masking tape?

sixties era driver from IMMENSE MINIATURES
no arms yet, though, still working on legs... I think I will be able to save something of the appearance of legs despite the shallowness of the tray.

The driver needs limbs and I need to wait for a finger to heal... I sliced my left index finger quite deep with a Zona saw blade!

:headslap:

I am not so much pissed with myself for rushing and behaving irresponsibly but for playing fast and loose with a sharp saw blade... Dumb.
