Revell Fw-190 A8 1/32

Hello all,

2.5 weeks ago Revells new tooled Fw-190 arrived to my bench and since that I have been working with it one hour here, one hour there ... But oh boy have those few hours been enjoyable? Oh yeah! My lost mojo has returned home, finally !!


(and perhaps I can dust off my Trumpeter 1/32 P-38 box and continue with it also one day)

With this project I have taken a pretty "unorthodox" approach, meaning I started with the landing gear, did some wing work, then working with the cockpit etc etc. Test fitted the engine parts. And as Thomas also wrote and showed a pic of the BMW engine, wouh, it's g-r-e-a-t !! Wonder who on earth would buy Edurds AM engine, waste of money... well, would be for me..

Still unsure what camo it will have... Captured butcherbird or a "classic" German camo... Time will tell..


So here comes some pics of what has happened since 8th of January 2018...
I hope I can close the fuselage still this month...


I started with the landing gear, had some challenges to find really good and detailed picture, where exactly the break tube connects.. Probably not really the exact and precise spot, but I am fine with it.



Part of the wing was also quickly build, so I could already do some tape-fittings. 1/32 scale is big!



Work with the cockpit took many evenings. I had planned to buy Eduards PE Instrument panel, but before ordering it, I thought I will give a try with the decals. As I don't have a "punch & die" tool, I just carefully separated every gauge with my x-acto knife and and put carefully every gauge one-by-one in position. With a lot of extra strong decal setting, the result was pretty ok. Resulting also that I saved some euros, as no need any longer for an AM IP.. I bought some time ago Bondic,
that I then used as glass on the instruments.



Weathering was done in a slow tempo. Using everything from oil-paints to different pigments and of course classic dry brushing. I am pretty satisfied with the result. Not "too much", but still giving a little bit dirty office environment... And yes, the control stick looks still as it came directly from the factory.. I will also do some weathering action the coming days..



And yesterday my only AM stuff, seat belts made of fabrics by HGW Models arrived with the post. I must say, has been challenging to "build up" one belt... Nice details, looks very good, but the instructions are really poor, part numbers relating to the PE parts did not match at all etc... I had to try out and test fit many times.. And here is the result of after struggling at least two hours with this... Not in one go, had to take some "time-outs" with the belt. Was difficult, but I believe the next belts will go quicker..

Indeed this was and, yes, still is my main idea going forward.

Looking more closely at the picture you shared (I have only seen smaller sizes so far), many new details "pop up" to my eyes. Either have not paid attention to them before or simply have not seen them.

First of all the sign hanging next to the cockpit, "Keep out"! Amazing, never seen that before. And by looking carefully at the edges of the sign and the shadow under the sign it creates, it strongly indicates it's genuine. In other words not "photoshopped" afterwards :-)

Also another fascinating detail is the tail-wheel, as it is turned!
I find it to be a really nice detail in a build, to have the tail wheel turned, so this will be included definitely for my 190. Almost more than an opened canopy!

I was happy to find that pair of photos since both sides were photographed on the same day with the same camera, and you are quite right to point out the additional detail of the warning sign — I think this is an important element for consideration as well. I am enjoying your progress immensely!

Good to see a build with this kit. I've build the Revell G-10 kit a couple of times and have thought that they were very good kits and built up nicely. Not perfect but a good mix of solid shape and decent details. Just curious... does the instrument panel photo depict the Bondic? It looks like the stage where you've put the decal solvent solution on the instrument decals.
