I also would like to thank you for posting the photograph, which is eerily similar to a photo of my hand holding "Minnie balls" taken from Gettysburg's fields of battle. I think your find is incredibly impressive and I am even more excited to have your report in April. Something to look forward to reading! Thanks, Kari. I'm tempted to write, "We now return to our regularly scheduled programing," but I do truly feel the through line between your Anton and everything we have chatted about herein. I just don't quite know the link, really, but that does not mean the link does not exist. There is a through line or "spine," here. Some narrative thread. I think it's incredibly powerful to depict a captured warbird, especially the formidable A8, and depict it within a specific time and place. I honestly applaud this because you can literally fix the coloration and weathering to the date or dates of the photographs, and you have the video and its stills of the first critical examination and probable repairs to the plane itself. I'm not stating you need to do this, but that it is available to you. It's fantastic.

tomorrow evening ( European time ) I hope I can "return" to the original subject and give some latest update regarding the status of Fw190.
Tomorrow Sunday will also be a little bit "exciting" day, will visit a small model convention, in a small town called Eeklo. Will be nice to see what the local Eeklo club has done. Will post some pics in another thread.

This sounds like a great day, Kari. I look forward to seeing your photographs both of the club and the Anton! I started looking up Belgium modeling clubs and conventions to see what is happening!! It's 10 pm at night; I spent the day shooting handmade jewelry by two talented sisters, and my SONY and I are both "battery exhausted" at the moment.

Nice that you have found those conventions! ( I guess those are for 2017, the dates are slightly different for 2018 )

I will definitely visit "KMK Scaleworld" on 9th of September (+ our dear SPAM friend Cherrylock will also be there) and then of course the yearly official IPMS Belgium convention 6th & 7th of October.

There will be a couple of big ones also this Spring, hopefully I can visit 3-4 of them.

Very nice decals! Ive been doing some web searching on the plane that you’ve chosen. Let’s just say that it’s fate remains murky. The aircraft was repaired into running condition after its capture, disarmed, and repainted. But according to a few different sites, it was only used for ground tests and never flew again. According to some , there were concerns over the landing gear. And others state that the wheels and tires had been soaked in hydraulic fluid, which apparently left them in condition to be unsafe for flight operations. Supposedly the aircraft was left at the St Trond airfield and whatever happened after that...

Black Paint

I think a lot about how the wing root areas were painted, too—hand painted, brush painted—and how the black interacted with the red underneath. I see the red subsurface altering the black just a tad towards blue, or perhaps the black paint used was blue shaded.



I posted this collage because there seems to be a difference in how straight the lines crossing the wings were, with K the decal manufacturer favoring more of a wavy line as opposed to the neater geometry of E’s example.

Indeed, in that particular picture, the red is very bright.
So I did a quick "field test" with my paint mule and MRP's Signal red.

Happens to have very much the same hue, as in the decal sheet instructions. Of course, impossible to say if the print itself is accurate, but the red looks pretty much ok.

you have sharp eyes! I have not yet paid really any attention to the black wing roots. Interesting question though.
Looking closely at the panel lines on the wing root, they are not really "vertically aligned" and in between is an area without any lines..



One theory could be, that the person who in reality painted the black (and I am pretty sure it was done with a brush), just tryed to follow the panel lines as well as possible and improvised the "in between" area (the dots)

Interesting though, that Eduards version is really more a theoretical version. Planned at the drawing table with a help of a ruler.
It's too "clinical" to look correct, too perfect lines, especially in field conditions ??
